Scott, can you share how your career began?
My career began with a strong interest in science, which led me to complete a degree in chemistry and then pursue a PhD in material science, closely linked to industry. During my PhD, I realised that while I loved research, academia wasn’t for me. I sought out industry opportunities and ended up getting a job with my PhD sponsor, Schefenacker Vision Systems (that would later become SMR Automotive). This marked the start of nearly 20 years in the automotive manufacturing industry, where I worked in materials engineering, project and production management, research and development, and most importantly, research translation.
How did you come to work at entX?
Bryn Jones (entX MD) and I have known each other for some time, having completed our chemistry degrees together. While Bryn pursued a career in the resources industry, I moved into manufacturing. Our professional paths crossed again when Bryn was conducting early feasibility work on GenX at UniSA, where I had also been involved in collaborative development during my time in the automotive industry. When I learned that Bryn and the other founders of the then PhosEnergy (later becoming entX) were looking to drive their new technology (GenX) up the TRL scale and commercialise it, I was eager to join the team as one of the first few employees of the business and contribute my relevant skills to that process.
What do you love most about working at entX?
We’ve been lucky to grow our small, highly talented, and highly motivated team that shares a passion for making these technologies happen, creating a unique culture. entX has truly assembled an outstanding group of people with diverse skill sets, enabling us to tackle challenging projects. You come to work always knowing you will learn something new.
For me, this was exactly what I needed at that point in my career. Moving from a large multinational organisation to a small, nimble, and extremely innovative and supportive business has been very refreshing. entX allows us the flexibility to run and deliver on our projects with a healthy level of accountability.
